The Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Behavioral Health, in collaboration with the Alaska Trust Authority, the Alaska Mental Health Board, and the Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, has initiated the Behavioral Health Integration Project (BHIP) to develop an integrated behavioral health division by designing a Comprehensive, Continuous Integrated System of Care (CCISC) for adults, children, and families with mental health and substance abuse disorders throughout the state of Alaska.
In order to facilitate implementation of CCISC, the division is extending the BHIP into rural regions and communities throughout the state with a formal training component. This was accomplished by developing the “Change Agent Training Initiative”. The DBH awarded a training contract to the Co-Occurring Disorders Institute (CODI) in January 2005 to facilitate this Change Agent Training Initiative.
CODI activities include a combination of training, consultation, and evaluation activities at the state, regional, community, and agency levels. In addition, CODI has established a participant list-serve for the Change Agent Training Initiative. Instructions for signing up for and participating on the list-serve can be accessed at: http://www.codi-ak.org/forum/
CODI has also developed the Scope Newsletter for the Change Agent Training Initiative. Past issues can be accessed at: http://www.codi-ak.org/SCOPE.html
